Solar Fittings – Designing energy efficient homes that save money

You have bought a plot. You are filled with many ideas of building a perfect home. You have researched every possible way to make your home as close as possible to your dream. But after doing everything, did you think about the long term benefits that you can reap from an energy efficient house design? Have you thought about how you can minimize the energy consumption of your house, saving a good amount of money, and at the same time contributing to the environment as well? We are talking about Solar Panels which you can use to harness solar energy and convert it into electricity.

To begin with, solar panels are devices that convert sunlight into electricity. They can be used to generate electricity, produce hot water, and warm homes. Apart from an yearly maintenance, and a one time investment, solar panels save a lot of money in a long run. Though solar panel generate electricity during the daytime only, suitable batteries can be used to store energy and then use it later in the night as well. Most of the houses that are equipped with solar panels on rooftop have a combination of general electricity from the power distribution board and solar panels. These two energy sources are used interchangeably as per the requirement. Moreover, solar power does not create any noise pollution. Unlike generators, it has no moving parts, and does not require any additional fuel to produce power.

In India, though solar power can be used in almost any region, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh are the most potential ones. Bangalore has the largest deployment of rooftop solar water heaters in India which generate an energy equivalent of 200 MW. In some regions even the government has taken steps to promote the use of Solar energy by providing electricity bill subsidies to people using solar panel. Maharashtra government recently announced that it  is planning to give 15% subsidy in private sector for setting up solar panels. The subsidy goes even higher if you use them in the commercial sector.

If you want to install solar panel in your home, you need to take help of a competent team of architects and engineers which can effectively combine the electrical drawings along with the architecture of the house. Make sure that you inform your contractor in advance that you are planning to include a solar panel in your house. You can even look for pre-designed house plans which beforehand include solar fittings in the house blueprint.

So, if you are planning to build a new house, consider the option of installing solar panel in your home, which will not only be helpful for the environment, but will help you save on electricity bills too.
